ESSENTIAL
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING WITH YOU.
BACKPACK
- All your equipment should fit snugly within a backpack. Try and waterproof all
compartments. A small day pack is a real bonus for when we leave the main camp
for the day.
BOOTS
- Ideally these should be walking or military
style boots, but wellingtons are OK. Additionally
you may want
to bring trainers or similar for relaxing in the evenings.
CLOTHING
- A layering system is more beneficial than a small number of thick layers. We
recommend natural fibres such as wool as
these are more safer around open fires, and even if wet will keep you warm. You
will also need underwear and socks for the duration of the course. We work on a
triple rotation system One on, One spare, One in the wash. Light cotton trousers
and a T- shirt are essential especially if the weather is warm. Outer clothing
should be fully water and windproof paying particular attention to working
around fires.
We also
recommend a full set of spare clothing you can travel home in, especially if you
are going by public transport.
EXTREMITIES
- A warm hat, scalf / headover and gloves must be carried as sometimes the
weather can get a little wet and windy.
SHELTER
& SLEEPING - Tent or
tarp or similar shelter to sleep and store your equipment in or under. Hammock
and tarp is a great way to stay outdoors. A good sleeping bag and roll or
inflatable sleeping mat are essential, and a waterproof bivi bag for the week
long courses.
UTENSILS
- A spoon, bowl and mug and a 1litre water bottle. Please ensure that all these
items are unbreakable.
HYGIENE
- Carry a wash bag and towel as personal hygiene is essential while in the
outdoors. Fold away wash bags and quick drying towels are recommended as well as
any toiletries you require. Hot water is available, along with washing bowls on
the courses
PERSONAL
FIRST AID KIT - Please
bring with you a small personal first aid kit. The items you carry within the
kit are up to you, but we recommend some form of pain killer like
Ibuprofen , anti histamine tablets for stings and an
assortment of plasters. All TAMARACK staff are qualified first aiders,
and there is a comprehensive first aid kit within the main camp.
SUNDRIES - Small note book and
pencil, torch with spare batteries, camera and binoculars. Please bring with you
swimwear as on some courses there is an opportunity to swim in the lake. We sit
around camp on logs, so it is advisable to bring along a small piece of foam to
sit on.
